Congratulations to Geoscience Australia on winning an Australian Government Digital Award for their Digital Earth Australia platform. Announced by the Digital Transformation Agency at a ceremony in Canberra, Geoscience Australia won the Outstanding Government Platform category for Digital Earth Australia (DEA), a hybrid cloud platform which allows users to view, download and transform satellite imagery from a wide variety of sources, as well as integrate with other data to derive new insight into Australia’s dynamic landscape.
NCI provides the central GSKY high-performance data service that makes it possible for DEA to search through large satellite data collections and analyse multiple datasets together. GSKY also allows real-time analysis of Australia's datasets of national significance using NCI's high-performance computing systems. This makes possible a new class of data-intensive workflows that can fast-track answers to important questions, such as identifying areas where vegetation cover shows increases in bushfire risk.
Handling the incoming deluge of earth-observation data requires the sophisticated on-demand processing and high-performance computation that GSKY and NCI enable. DEA users are already analysing vegetation cover, intertidal zones, water availability across the Australian landscape and much more.
