Congratulations to NCI users Professors Michelle Coote and Timothy Baldwin who have been awarded substantial ARC funding for their research efforts.
Professor Coote leads the Computer Aided Chemical Design group at ANU and is a Project Coordinator (Modelling) within the ARC Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science.
She has been named a 2017 ARC Australian Laureate Fellow and will receive more than $2.3 million to work on "a new approach to the design and optimization of several new classes of catalyst for assembling complex molecules and materials".
The aim is for the catalysts developed during the fellowship to accelerate and control the chemical reactions used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and materials, with significant practical benefits to industry.
Professor Coote was also named a Georgina Sweet Australian Laureate Fellowship, which entails funding for recipients of $20,000 per year over five years to undertake an ambassadorial role to promote women in research.

Meanwhile Professor Baldwin at the University of Melbourne has received a minimum of $2.1 million to build a workforce of experts in data-driven and machine learning-based medical technologies through the new ARC Training Centre in Cognitive Computing for Medical Technologies.
