In addition, Professor Barnard is a powerful advocate for and contributor to the computational science communities in Australia and around the world. She is currently the Chair of the Australasian Leadership Computing Grants scheme which the NCI runs each year to support the most ambitious computational science projects in the country.

NCI Director Professor Sean Smith says, “It’s wonderful to see Professor Amanda Barnard’s contributions recognised through this Order of Australia. She is one of Australia’s leading researchers, pushing forward the ambition and capabilities of our science through innovative and creative work.”

Professor Barnard’s research has played an important role in the development of nanotechnology for the design of cancer treatment drugs. Her new methods for applying machine learning to physical science data make it possible to analyse the complexities of scientific datasets.
