A new portrait photography exhibition capturing the faces of 100 Australian scientists has opened in Canberra taking a contemporary snapshot of Canberra scientists who have made significant contributions to research in science, medicine and health.

The Faces of Science exhibition features the work of local Canberra photographer Michael John Hood who aimed to capture the essence of the people behind the science.

The exhibition was officially opened last week by Ms Robyn Archer AO, Creative Director of the Centenary of Canberra who explained her own long-term interest in science.

The exhibition includes the portraits of two NCI  staff, Drew Whitehouse and Ajay Limaye, who were chosen in recognition of their leadership in the field of scientific visualisation.

The collaborative project, where science meets art, was coordinated by CSIRO and made possible with the help of the Centenary of Canberra, the Australian Academy of Science, the Australian National University and Geoscience Australia.

The exhibition is on at the CSIRO Discovery Centre in Canberra with free entry until Wednesday 29 January 2014, after which date the exhibition will travel to museums and science centres around Australia. The images are also available for viewing online via Michael John Hood's website .
