Professor Lindsay Botten – NCI Director
19 May 2008: Emeritus Professor Mark Wainwright, NCI Steering Committee Chair, is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Lindsay Botten as the NCI Director.
Professor Botten has had a sustained and comprehensive involvement with the development of advanced computing in Australian over many years. Lindsay is a highly respected academic and has made substantial leadership contributions in advanced computing. He has worked in the Australian higher education system for nearly 30 years and is currently a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Technology, Sydney, a Chief Investigator of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Ultrahigh-bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems, and a Director at ac3 (Australian Centre for Advanced Computing and Communications). He also served on the APAC Board from 2003-07.
This appointment comes at an important time in the development of NCI's funding for Implementing the National Computational Infrastructure project for the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy's Research Capability known as 'Platforms for Collaboration Capability'. Lindsay is looking forward to this exciting phase of the development of eResearch infrastructure in Australia.
