Simon Brandi Mortensen from NCI industry partner DHI has been recognised as one of Australia's top 50 most innovative engineers by Engineers Australia. The recognition is for work he has done on behalf of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, using NCI to model the grounding risk of large ships off the coast of Australia.
As ship traffic to and from Australia increases in the next decade, understanding where and when ships are most at risk of grounding will help us design new shipping routes and emergency response strategies. Mr. Mortensen's work can simulate past and future ship traffic, giving accurate information for every ship based on its own hydrodynamic characteristics.
