Emeritus Professor Michael Barber, Chair of NCI
The Chair of NCI's Board, Emeritus Professor Michael Barber, has been appointed as an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) in the Australia Day 2018 Honours List.
The full Australian Honours citation recognises Professor Barber's "distinguished service to higher education administration, and in the field of mathematical physics, particularly statistical mechanics, as an academic and researcher, and through contributions to science policy reform."
Professor Barber has contributed significantly to the advancement of science and education in Australia through the various tenures and initiatives undertaken over his career. Most notably, Professor Barber was Professor of Mathematics at the Australian National University between 1984 and 1994, and held the position of Dean, Faculty of Science from 1990 to 1994. In more recent times, he held the position of Vice-Chancellor at Flinders University between 2008 and 2014.
