Description

NCI Australia is home to Gadi, Australia's fastest research supercomputer. Ranked 24th fastest in the world at launch in early 2020, Gadi is a massive cluster of computers and data storage infrastructure that is aiding Australian researchers across the scientific spectrum.

As you read this sentence, Gadi is helping Australian scientists develop cutting-edge treatments and vaccines, including those for COVID-19. At the same time, it is assisting emergency services in predicting when and where catastrophic bushfires will take place, and how to protect lives and property. Gadi also models Earth's climate, simulates chemical reactions, explores the night sky, and much more. At any one time, thousands of researchers are performing hundreds of experiments on Gadi.

To celebrate National Science Week, NCI Australia is opening up the data hall for a virtual tour. Participants will see Gadi, the thousands of terabytes of NCI's data storage systems and all the infrastructure in between.
