Welcome to NCI
The mission of National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) is to provide Australian researchers with world-class high-end computing services.
NCI is hosted by the Australian National University (ANU) and it builds upon the work of its successful antecedent—the Australian Partnership for Advanced Computing Program (APAC) National Facility Program.
NCI is funded by the Australian Government, through its National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (Platforms for Collaboration), and through substantial co-investment by a number of partner organisations, the two most prominent of which are ANU and CSIRO.
The work of NCI is structured into two main activities: Facilities and Services, and Planning, Access, Policy and Outreach.
The former provides the user-facing services and is divided into three programs:
The National Facility
The National Facility provides the national peak computing facility for capability-class computing, and is operated by NCI at the Australian National University.

Specialised Facilities
Specialised Facilities provide high-end computing services that complement the role of the National Facility in supporting particular user communities. For these, NCI invests in facilities and services operated by other specialist providers.

Tools and Techniques
Computational Tools and Techniques which provides specialised support for a limited number of research communities and which also explores new computational paradigms and technologies.

The latter, which is focused on strategic planning and policy development, the provision of access on research merit and by partner share, and building the uptake of, and investment in, high-end computing services in Australia, is undertaken through the NCI Steering Committee (Board) and the NCI Directorate.
