NCI is pleased to announce that two ARC Centres of Excellence have been added to its Flagship Scheme, in recognition of their commitment to high-impact science in Australia. These are:

  • ARC Centre of Excellence in Future Low-Energy Electronics Technologies;
  • ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science

25 million compute hours are allocated annually under the Flagship Scheme, underpinning the efforts of researchers at the cutting edge of Australian scientific discovery.

The ARC CoE in Future Low-Energy Electronics Technologies, established at Monash University, aims to develop and better understand new types of electronic conduction, which may lead to a new generation of integrated electronics technology that feature ultra-low energy consumption.

The ARC CoE in Exciton Science, established at the University of Melbourne, is conducting research into the properties of light energy, including its absorption, transportation and transformation in advanced molecular materials. Breakthroughs in this area may lead to more efficient solar energy conversion, energy-efficient lighting and optical sensor platforms for defence.

These Centres join four existing ARC CoE's currently under NCI's Flagship scheme: Climate System Science (ARCCSS), All-Sky Astrophysics (CAASTRO), Ultrahigh-bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems (CUDOS), and Nanoscale Biophotonics (CNBP).
