In addition to the peak system, the NCI National Facility also operates a SGI XE Cluster commissioned in January 2009. This system, xe.nci.org.au has one tenth of the peak performance of “vayu” and was installed to:

  • provide both a development system for use by the National Facility support staff in developing the software stack for vayu, and in implementing a large scale cluster with an Infiniband interconnect and a Lustre filesystem, and
  • a transition system for the user community in preparation for the arrival of the Sun Constellation (Vayu).
