Scheduled Quarterly Maintenance – 2019 Q3

Start: Monday 1 July 2019 08:00 AEST (8am)
End: Monday 1 July 2019 18:00 AEST (6pm)

NCI systems, including Raijin, the Lustre file systems (/g/data1, /g/data2, /g/data3), massdata, and virtual infrastructure, including VDI, data services, and partner cloud virtual machine instances, are scheduled to be offline for quarterly maintenance from 08:00 (8am) to 18:00 (6pm) AEST on Monday 1 July 2019. All systems are expected to return to operational status by 6:00 pm AEST on the same day.

Raijin jobs scheduled to run into or start during the quarterly maintenance period will be held and then released when maintenance is completed. NCI recommends that all users employ the PBS Pro job option “#PBS -lother=gdataN” (where N = 1, 2 or 3 indicates the /g/data file system dependency) or the “PBS -lother=massdata” option in job scripts which utilise these services. These options will prevent your job from running if the designated /g/data or massdata system is not available.

Reminder – Raijin /short Usage

NCI will NOT migrate the contents of Raijin /short to the new HPC system. All users are strongly encouraged to start archiving and cleaning up files in their /short directories as soon as possible. The Raijin /short file system is provided for temporary files only and is not backed up.

Projects with large /short allocations are advised to start file clean up and archiving efforts as soon as possible.

Please contact NCI User Support ( if you require assistance identifying, archiving or cleaning up old or unneeded files in your /short directories. Projects which require persistent storage allocations on /g/data Lustre disk or the massdata tape archive are advised to seek these allocations through NCI partner schemes. Contact your partner scheme manager for more details.

2019 Q3 Partner Scheme Compute Allocations

NCI partner scheme managers are reminded to submit 2019 Q3 allocations to NCI User Support. Allocations for multiple projects can be provided in the following CSV format for convenience:

Note that in this format the allocation is specified in SU (service units), and not KSU (kilo service units). If partner scheme Q3 allocations are not provided before the end of the quarter, project allocations for your scheme will be set to match those from 2019 Q2. Unused allocations from Q2 cannot be carried forward to later quarters. Partner scheme allocations can be adjusted at any time during the quarter by contacting NCI User Services.

User Account Recertification 2019 Q2-Q3

In June all NCI users will be asked to update their account passwords and acknowledge current terms and conditions of access for NCI.

Recertification is important for account and data security. It ensures only approved users have access to NCI systems and data, and that NCI and its users meet our mutual obligations under Commonwealth legislation, such as the Autonomous Sanctions Act and Defence Trade Controls Act.

NCMAS 2020 Call for Applications

The NCMAS 2020 Call for Applications is scheduled to open on Monday 2 August 2019 and close on Friday 20 September. Further details on the NCMAS 2020 Call for Applications will be announced publicly in June and July.
