Scheduled Quarterly Maintenance – 2018 Q4

Start: Tuesday 2 October 2018 08:00 AEST (8am)
End: Tuesday 2 October 2018 18:00 AEST (6pm)

NCI systems, including Raijin, the Lustre file systems (/g/data1, /g/data2, /g/data3), massdata, and all virtual infrastructure, including Tenjin virtual machine instances, VDI and associated data services, will be offline for scheduled quarterly maintenance from 08:00 (8am) to 18:00 (6pm) AEST on Tuesday 2 October. All systems are expected to return to operational status by 6:00 pm AEST on the same day.

Jobs on Raijin scheduled to run into or during the quarterly maintenance period will be held and will be released when Raijin returns to operational status. PBS Pro job flags can be used to register Raijin file system dependencies for your jobs, and can help PBS Pro to run your job when resources are available. NCI recommends using the options “#PBS -lother=gdataN” option (where N = 1, 2 or 3 to indicate the /g/data file system dependency) or “PBS -lother=massdata” in your job scripts which utilise these services.

Public Holiday – 1 October

NCI user support will not be available on Monday 1 October, which is the Labour Day public holiday in the ACT, NSW and SA, and Queen’s Birthday public holiday in QLD. Support requests received on 1 October will be addressed as soon as possible on the next business day. Please also note that support requests received on 1 October may be actionable only after completion of scheduled maintenance at 6pm AEST on Monday 2 October.

2018 Q4 Partner Scheme Allocations

NCI partner scheme managers are reminded to submit 2018 Q4 allocations to NCI User Support. Allocations for multiple projects can be provided in the following CSV format for convenience:

<projectcode>,<stakeholder>,PBSPro,2018.q4,<allocation_in_SU>

Note that the allocation is specified in SU, rather than KSU, in the CSV data. If Q4 allocations have not been provided, project allocations for your scheme will be set to match those from 2018 Q3. Unused allocations from 2018 Q3 cannot be carried forward to later quarters. Partner scheme allocations can be adjusted at any time during the quarter by contacting NCI User Services.

Raijin /short Usage

NCI encourages all users to archive or delete non-essential files in your project and user directories on Raijin /short. The /short file system is intended for short-term, temporary storage only. Files on /short are not backed up. Please contact NCI User Support if you require assistance identifying, archiving or cleaning up old or unneeded files in your /short directories.
