NCI Scheduled Quarterly Maintenance – 2018 Q1
Start: Tuesday 02 January 2018 08:00 AEDT (8am)
End: Tuesday 02 January 2018 18:00 AEDT (6pm)
NCI systems will undergo scheduled quarterly maintenance between 8am and 6pm AEDT on Tuesday 2 January 2018.
Raijin, the Lustre file systems (/g/data1, /g/data2, /g/data3), massdata, and virtual infrastructure, including Tenjin virtual machine instances, VDI and associated data services, will be offline for maintenance from 08:00 (8am) to 18:00 (6pm) AEDT on 2 January. All systems are expected to return to operational status no later than 6:00 pm AEDT on 2 January.
Jobs on Raijin scheduled to run into or during the maintenance period will be held before the scheduled downtime and released when Raijin returns to operational status. Note that PBS Pro job flags can be used to indicate Raijin file system dependencies for your jobs. This can help PBS Pro to schedule your job to run when resources are available. NCI recommends using the options “#PBS -lother=gdataN” option (where N = 1, 2 or 3 to indicate the /g/data file system dependency) or “PBS -lother=massdata” in your job scripts which utilise these systems.
NCI will issue further advisories with more details of scheduled maintenance activities through the month of December.
Christmas – New Year Holiday Period
NCI systems will operate as normal during the ANU Christmas – New Year holiday break period from (12pm AEDT) Friday 22 December 2017 to Monday 2 January 2018. Please note that the NCI Support Desk will not be staffed during the Christmas – New Year break. Support requests received during this period will be addressed as soon as possible from Tuesday 2 January. Support requests received between 22 December and 2 January may not be actionable until after quarterly maintenance is completed on Tuesday 2 January.
NCMAS 2018 Call for Applications
Outcomes from the National Computational Merit Allocation Scheme (NCMAS) 2018 Call for Applications are scheduled to be announced on Tuesday 5 December 2017.
Raijin /short Usage
NCI encourages all users to archive or delete non-essential files in your project and user directories on Raijin /short. The /short file system is intended for short-term, temporary storage only. Files on /short are not backed up. Please contact NCI User Support if you require assistance identifying, archiving or cleaning up old or unneeded files in your /short directories.
2018 Partner Scheme Allocations
NCI partner scheme managers are reminded to submit 2018 Q1 allocations to NCI User Support – firstname.lastname@example.org. If Q1 allocations have not been provided by Tuesday 19 December, project allocations for your scheme will be set to match those from 2017 Q4. Unused allocations from 2017 Q4 cannot be carried forward to later quarters. Partner scheme allocations can be adjusted at any time during the quarter by contacting NCI User Services.
Please contact NCI User Support (email@example.com) if you have questions or require assistance to prepare for the scheduled quarterly maintenance downtime on 2 January.
